Coronavirus and Education Resources

POE continues to gather resources for educators and support personnel to keep you informed during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our hope is to provide resources across multiple outlets to help you stay as informed as possible and to enable you to better serve your students. As always, contact us with any questions, comments or ways we can help you navigate this unprecedented time in our state’s history.

POE’s Recommendations for Opening Schools

POE has released recommendations for opening schools. These recommendations reflect the concerns of our members and create an opportunity for local and state leaders to develop policies that address the serious and complicated issues we are facing during the pandemic. Other important links:

POE COVID-19 FAQs

The legal team at Professional Oklahoma Educators has received numerous calls and emails from teachers and support staff about returning to work when schools reopen in the fall. Your concerns are real and valid. Please know at POE that we want a safe and healthy environment for when you return to the classroom. To help with your concerns, POE has compiled COVID-19 FAQs that address paid sick leave under the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, screen, testing, exposure, support staff and travel.

Fraudulent Unemployment Claims

Fraud has been a big business for millennia, and as time marches on, the methods used to exploit people have evolved over time. And with the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been millions of unemployment claims, many of them false claims. Those false claims range from seeking benefits from businesses that were closed years before the pandemic began, to claiming to be someone else in order to get their unemployment benefits. POE’s Bite-Sized Professional Learning addressed data fraud in education. And here are some helpful articles and resources on what to know about COVID-19 scams and fraudulent unemployment claims:

OETA Learning at Home

OETA is adjusting its daytime schedule to provide curriculum-based programming for students on its broadcast channel, OETA WORLD. Programs will include PBS favorites like NOVA, Nature, American Experience as well as PBS KIDS programming. This will be in addition to shifting programming on the main OETA channel and OETA Kids. You can visit OETA.tv/LearningAtHome to view the updated program schedule, OETA’s statewide channel list, curriculum, and activities.
